Weave Update for Firefox Syncs Your Web Identity

If you’re a Firefox user, you now have the ability to synchronize not only your bookmarks, browsing history and user preferences across multiple PCs, you can also sync your identity.

Mozilla has updated Weave, its free add-on for Firefox that lets you synchronize all your personal data across the various Firefox installations you have running on your work PC, your home PCs and your mobile phone. This latest update to Weave (now at version 0.4, which can be downloaded from Mozilla), builds in support for syncing online identities, including logins and passwords for your favorite websites, as well as support for OpenID logins at any website that utilizes them.

Once you’ve told Weave to keep track of your login data, the plug-in uses the stored identities to automatically log you into your favorite sites, in most cases requiring only a single click. Mozilla showed off Weaves’s new identity syncing features back in May when the company first announced that Weave would support OpenID.

The latest version of Weave also supports Fennec, the mobile version of Firefox, which means you can easily transfer your desktop browsing sessions to your Fennec-compatible phone.

For example:

  • Get the same results on the Smart Location Bar on each of your Firefox browsers, so you can get to your favorite sites with just a few keystrokes
  • Continue what you were doing: have the ability to open any tab you have open on any of your Firefox browsers
  • Keep the same list of bookmarks on all of your Firefox browsers
  • Easily sign in to all your favorite sites using your saved passwords (this is especially handy on mobile phones, where it’s hard to type in complex passwords)
  • Do it all securely: Weave Sync encrypts user data before uploading it to Mozilla’s servers, so that only you can access your data
Getting Started
  • Step 1. Make sure you are running the latest Firefox 3.5 beta
  • Step 2. Download and install the latest development milestone of the Weave client.
  • Step 3. Open the Weave menu in the Tools menu or the bottom-right of the status-bar and select 'Sign in' to start syncing with Weave!

QOTD: Steve Jobs is Back at Work

Steve Jobs is back to work. He is at Apple a few days a week and working from home the other days, We're glad to have him back.
Apple spokesman Steve Dowling said.

There have been lots of Steve Jobs sightings at Apple last week, but it's finally official that he's back at work. Jobs's return may do little to quell the tech community's obsession with his health and future role at the hip tech company. Bloggers and tech-news writers are asking many questions about Jobs' return, including: Would Apple be fine without its famous chief executive? What does Jobs' health mean for Apple stock? And why has Jobs' health been such a drooled-over story? Whatever, as an apple fans that was a good news.

Welcome back, Steve!

Rest in Peace, The King of Pop

Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American recording artist, entertainer and businessman. The seventh child of the Jackson family, he made his début to the professional music scene at the age of 11 as a member of The Jackson 5 in 1969, and began a solo career in 1971 while still a member of the group. Referred to as the "King of Pop" in subsequent years, his 1982 album Thriller is the world's best-selling record of all time and four other solo studio albums are also among the world's best-selling records: Off the Wall (1979), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991) and HIStory (1995).

In the early 1980s, he became a dominant figure in popular music and the first African-American entertainer to amass a strong crossover following on MTV. The popularity of his music videos airing on MTV, such as "Beat It", "Billie Jean" and Thriller — widely credited with transforming the music video from a promotional tool into an art form — helped bring the relatively new channel to fame. Videos such as "Black or White" and "Scream" made Jackson an enduring staple on MTV in the 1990s. With stage performances and music videos, Jackson popularized a number of physically complicated dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk. His distinctive musical sound and vocal style influenced many hip hop, pop and contemporary R&B artists. While Jackson was a member of Generation Jones, he had an impact on multiple generations.

Jackson donated and raised millions of dollars for beneficial causes through his foundation, charity singles and support of 39 charities. Other aspects of his personal life, including his changing appearance and behavior, generated significant controversy, damaging his public image. Though he was accused of child sexual abuse in 1993, the criminal investigation was closed due to lack of evidence and Jackson was not charged. The singer had experienced health concerns since the early 1990s and conflicting reports regarding the state of his finances since the late 1990s. Jackson married twice and fathered three children, all of which caused further controversy. In 2005, Jackson was tried and acquitted of further sexual abuse allegations and several other charges.

One of the few artists to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, his other achievements include multiple Guinness World Records — including one for "Most Successful Entertainer of All Time"—13 Grammy Awards, 13 number one singles in his solo career — more than any other male artist in the Hot 100 era and the sale of 750 million records worldwide. Jackson's highly publicized personal life, coupled with his successful career, made him a part of popular culture for almost four decades. Jackson died on June 25, 2009, aged 50. The specific cause of death is yet to be determined. Before his death, Jackson had announced a 50 date sell-out This Is It comeback tour, in London, England.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE

Adding a Facebook Live Stream Box to Your Site

Facebook launching a new feature for webmasters to post a stream of relevant Facebook updates in real time. called a Live Stream Box.

With the Live Stream Box on your website, users log in using Facebook Connect and share updates that appear both within the Live Stream Box and on their Facebook profiles and in their friends’ home page Streams. Each post includes a link back to the Live Stream Box on your site so users can discover the live event and immediately join based on their friends’ recommendations. The Live Stream Box includes a tab to see updates from everyone who is posting on the event from across the Web as well as a filter for a user to view just their friends’ updates.

If you have your own site where you want to implement a Live Stream Box (like here), you need to add some JavaScript code to the page where you want the box to appear.

First, download a cross-domain communication channel file, then upload it to the directory with the file that will reference the Live Stream Box. This file will allow your site and Facebook to send data back and forth.

Edit the HTML file where you plan to reference the Live Stream Box. Within the <html> tag, add this attribute: xmlns:fb="http://www.facebook.com/2008/fbml", as in:

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xmlns:fb="http://www.facebook.com/2008/fbml">

Next, add the following code to each file where you want a Live Stream Box to appear. Replace YOUR_API_KEY_HERE with the API key you received earlier, set the height and width for the box, and include the path to xd_receiver.htm.

<script src="http://static.ak.connect.facebook.com/js/api_lib/v0.4/FeatureLoader.js.php" type="text/javascript"></script>
<fb:live-stream width="<widthInPixels>" height="<heightInPixels>"></fb:live-stream>
<script type="text/javascript">

FB.init("YOUR_API_KEY_HERE", "<path from web root>/xd_receiver.htm");

</script>

Note: You can create multiple Live Stream Boxes to cover multiple events. Add xid="EVENT_NAME", specifying a name to uniquely identify the event (EVENT_NAME can include only numbers, letters, and underscores). The default XID is xid="default".

Developers and site owners can visit Facebook's Live Stream Box page to learn more. For websites that don't require real-time user interaction, Facebook still recommends their Comments Box, released earlier this year. The Comments Box also allows users to connect through Facebook Connect, but content generated is archived, asynchronous, and searchable.

How to Make a Mojito

Mojito

The mojito is a traditional Cuban cocktail which became popular in the United States during the late 1980s, and has recently seen a resurgence in popularity. A mojito is traditionally made of five ingredients: spearmint, rum, sugar (traditionally sugar cane juice), lime, and carbonated water. Its combination of sweetness and refreshing citrus and spearmint flavors are intended to mask the potent kick of the rum, and have made this clear cocktail a popular summer drink.

Ingredients

  • 3 sprigs of fresh mint
  • 2 tsp of sugar
  • a hefty squeeze of lime juice
  • 1 1/2 oz of light rum, add to taste
  • chilled club soda or seltzer ( I prefer the club soda)

First take a tall glass and crush the mint inside thoroughly making sure that the insides of the glass are also being rubbed with the mint. Add in your sugar and lime juice (fresh is the best). Next make sure that you fill your glass with crushed ice. Pour in your rum and your club soda. Mix well by using a drink shaker and transferring the liquid back and forth a few times before you leave it in the final resting place of the tall glass. For decoration you can add a slice of lime and another mint leaf on top. Use a straw to consume and enjoy your fabulous new creation.

If you are a person that enjoys a little fruity flavor with your drink then you can add a flavored vodka to the mix and create Raspberry Mojitos, Blackberry Mojitos, Coconut Mojitos, etc. You can also add additional pieces of fruit to accommodate the flavor with added colorful decorations.

This type of drink is very versatile for adding ingredients to. Even men find the Mojitos an irresistible treat. So why spend a fortune on a great summer drink? Make your own and save the extra money for something like dinner and a movie.

Tips: The fresh mint and the lime are the two most important ingredients of the mojito. Don't try to skimp on either of these things.

Cheers!
